About Us

A Promise For Parents is a Community Mental Health Center developed in direct response to the growing need for support services for parents who have learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities or adaptive functioning concerns that directly impact their parenting abilities.  Parents with intellectual disabilities love their children and desire an ongoing positive family relationship.  However, providing for the care and safety of their children are often concerns on the minds of family and friends. In the social service field it has long been recognized that this specialty group has little support in terms of specific parenting services that meet the direct needs of children and families.  So many times lack of knowledge, understanding, skill, financial crisis, and/or stress can lead to the neglectful care of a child.  Parenting classes available to the general population overlook the specific needs of these families and do not provide necessary support.

A Promise For Parents has been developed to meet the needs of individuals whose adaptive functioning skills are impacting their parenting abilities and to promote healthy relationships and safe family interactions.
A Promise For Parents provides comprehensive, integrative services for parents with intellectual disabilities and adaptive functioning concerns and their children, ages 0-18.
